This journal continues the research from my dissertation, "Asian Modernities: The Historical Unconscious in Asian and Asian American Literatures." In my dissertation, I argued that moments of strangeness in Asian and Asian American literatures written after 1900 can provide information about alternative modernities, concepts of modern life and identity that are different from the Western picture of modernity (often conceived as a dominant or default modernity). I focused on Korean-American modernist and post-modernist writings, Japanese and Korean comics from the turn of the twentieth century, and contemporary Korean and Chinese fiction about urban landscapes and the natural environment.

I have come across some exciting literature and media since I finished my dissertation in 2022, so this is the place where I will write about those topics and how they dialogue with modernity and strangeness.
